If you have customers looking to employ staff on public holidays during the festive season, the Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) offers online information and upcoming webinars with guidance on the topic.
In general, employees are entitled to be absent from work on a day or a part-day that is a public holiday. Employers may ask employees to work on a public holiday if it is reasonable to do so. If an employee works on a public holiday, they may be entitled to penalty rates.
